System intake & documentation

We record your device’s specifications, note every issue you have been experiencing, and take a baseline measurement of boot time and overall responsiveness.

Data backup & system restore point

Before we visit, please make a full backup of all your important data files. If you are not sure how to do this, please let us know beforehand so that we can advise you.

Before anything on your system is changed, we verify that your important configuration files are safe, create a full system restore point and confirm that the system can be rolled back if needed. We will explain how our optional Windows System Restoration service works, as it saves a lot of time, money and heartache.

Hardware health pre-check

S.M.A.R.T. analysis of the hard drive or SSD, battery condition on laptops and a quick memory test, to catch failing components before we optimise the software.

Junk & temporary file removal

Clearing system caches, temporary folders, Windows Update leftovers, crash dumps, log files and the Recycle Bin, typically freeing several gigabytes of storage.

Bloatware, unused software & trial version removal

Trialware, manufacturer tools you never use, duplicate utilities and abandoned programs are uninstalled cleanly, including their leftover files and entries. We also clean out old printing programs that may no longer be in use (the HP and Canon printing suites are full of useless clutter!).

Startup program optimisation

Every auto-start entry is reviewed and trimmed, so your PC boots straight to work instead of launching a dozen background programs before you even log in. We will turn off non-essential programs from starting at boot. We also remove the GUI boot screen: displaying the system logo uses a small amount of system resources, so you will see a small improvement in boot-up if we disable it. Tweaking unnecessary Windows system effects also reduces memory use and speeds up the Windows visual redraw response. The trade-off is in the graphic look, if you have a particularly heavy Windows desktop “theme” such as Star Wars installed.

Browser cleanup & reset

Removal of suspicious extensions, toolbars and adware; resetting the homepage and search engine; clearing cache and cookies; making your default browser fast again. New AI-built extensions are injecting malware into browsers: they “build themselves” once downloaded, and usually go undetected by anti-virus and anti-malware programs because the user “authorised” their installation. Google has recently been installing a 4 GB on-device AI model (Gemini Nano) on users’ PCs via the Chrome and Chromium browsers, without asking permission. Many users, and at least one privacy researcher, have objected. The file takes up disk space and can re-download itself after you delete it. We can switch it off and remove it for you.

Operating system updates

MS Windows Update brought up to date: security patches, cumulative updates and pending feature updates applied and verified. NB: lately, Windows updates have become a real problem. Microsoft has released several updates for Windows 11 that failed to install correctly or broke existing features, resulting in errors and, in some cases, complete system lockouts. As a result, many users have stayed with, or gone back to, Windows 10. We at Computer Studio have special optimised, “tuned” versions of W10, which enjoy all the benefits of W11 plus the speed and reduced size of W10, along with pre-installed security updates and updates disabled. Windows updates can also stop software that has not been activated with a valid licence from working. Please note that Computer Studio can only support properly licensed software.

Driver updates

Chipset, graphics, audio, network and peripheral drivers updated to stable, current versions, fixing glitches and improving hardware compatibility. We also remove old drivers that are no longer in use and waste memory.

System file repair

Corrupted system files repaired (SFC / DISM), file-system errors checked and fixed, and the Windows image restored to health where required.

Registry maintenance

Safe cleanup of orphaned registry entries left behind by uninstalled software and malware infections, with a full backup taken beforehand, never a risky “one-click registry booster”.

Full malware & virus removal

A deep scan with multiple reputable engines: viruses, trojans, adware, potentially unwanted programs and browser hijackers removed, plus a rootkit check and a verification re-scan.

Security configuration review

Firewall enabled and correctly configured, antivirus active and up to date, user account control set sensibly, plus practical advice on passwords and two-factor authentication.

Drive optimisation

TRIM optimisation for SSDs, defragmentation for traditional hard drives, and automated cleanup scheduled so the drive stays tidy in future.

Performance tuning

Power plan optimised, unnecessary visual effects toned down, virtual memory checked, and an analysis of RAM and storage headroom with honest upgrade advice if your machine would truly benefit.

Thermal & fan check

Temperature monitoring under load to identify overheating, CPU throttling or a failing fan, before it turns into a hardware failure.

Physical cleaning

Careful dust removal from fans, heatsinks and vents; screen and keyboard cleaned; thermal paste inspected and renewed where temperatures demand it.

Peripherals & network check

Printers, scanners, webcams and external drives verified working; Wi-Fi signal quality measured, with practical tips on router placement and channel congestion.

Final verification & benchmark

A full restart cycle, a repeat of the baseline benchmark, and confirmation that every issue you reported at intake has been resolved.

Handover & recommendations

You receive a plain-language summary of everything that was done and found, tailored tips to keep your PC fast, and the option of a scheduled maintenance plan.
