The Legion 9i Gen 10 is Lenovo's flagship 18-inch laptop, built for developers and gamers who want desktop-class power without a separate tower. Under the hood it pairs a 24-core Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 laptop GPU (up to 175W), DDR5-4800 memory, an ultra-high-performance Gen 5 SSD, and a 99.9Wh battery.

The chassis uses an anodised magnesium build with a black aluminium lid finished in forged carbon, available in a semi-reflective graphite camo design. Build quality is excellent, with a rigid, flex-free chassis and a screen that stays steady. A backlit LEGION logo on the lid, front ambient lighting and per-key RGB customisation are included, alongside a power button that changes colour with the selected power profile.

At 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs) and measuring 40.3 x 29.7 x 2.8 cm, plus a substantial 400W power adapter, this is a laptop built for performance at a desk rather than portability.

Display

The 18" glossy IPS panel runs at HDR 3840x2400 (16:10) resolution with excellent factory colour calibration via the bundled X-Rite Color Assistant utility, making it a strong choice for photo and video editing as well as gaming. Peak brightness reaches 520 nits.

At native resolution the screen refreshes at a smooth 240Hz; dropping to 1080p pushes that up to 440Hz. The main trade-off versus OLED or Mini-LED rivals is reflectivity in bright rooms, and there is no OLED or Mini-LED option on this model.

Connectivity, ports and keyboard

Ports are generous for a laptop aimed at developers as well as gamers: three USB-C ports (two of them Thunderbolt 5 with 140W power delivery), three USB-A ports, a full-size SD 4.0 card reader, HDMI 2.1, a headphone/mic combo jack, and a full-size 2.5G Ethernet port. A physical eShutter switch instantly disables the 5-megapixel RGB+IR webcam for privacy. Wireless connectivity is handled by 2x2 Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

The full-size keyboard includes a numpad, 1.6mm of key travel and a slight concave dish on each key for a comfortable, precise typing feel, alongside a large, responsive trackpad.

Cooling and thermal performance

A vapour chamber, liquid-metal cooling and four fans keep the hardware in check under sustained load, with a 300W thermal ceiling. Heat is directed mainly out through rear exhaust vents around the power and HDMI connectors, keeping the keyboard, trackpad and palm rests comfortable to use even during demanding sessions.

Storage and audio

The 2TB Gen 5 PCIe SSD is one of the fastest currently available in a laptop, suited to large game libraries, 4K video editing and fast project load times. A six-speaker system, with four woofers and two tweeters, is tuned with audio-personalisation software; it gets loud, though quality can soften slightly at maximum volume.

Battery

The 99.9Wh battery is sized to stay just under the limit generally allowed on flights without airline approval. As with most high-performance 18" laptops, battery life is best treated as a bonus rather than a headline feature: expect a few hours of everyday work away from the mains, and plan to keep it plugged in for gaming.
